I grew up on the beach. Fished the beaches of Monterey, Santa Cruz, Big Sur, Carmel, Asilomar. The Santa Cruz area has a lot of beaches that can be accessed. Palm Beach, Pajaro River mouth, Sunset Beach, Manresa, New Brighton Beach and a number more.
Is there a specific area you are looking for. You mentioned Sand Dollar

    Default surf perch

    Jay,

My friend has a place on Sand Dollar beach. From what I was told it is just above Manresa. From the pictures I have seen it looks decent. Have you fished there? He recently started flyfishing and I think he would really enjoy it.

    Thanks...

I fished Pajaro River Mouth for surf perch. I think all the beaches along that coast have surf perch. Right Jay? (Jay I'm sure you don't remember me, but I took Ken's class on the surf at Pajaro in I believe 2006. You were there helping Ken). I have sooo much more to learn.

Any and all of those beaches mentioned will fish well for Perch.

I've had success both great and small (depending on conditions) at all of them. Haven't been out for about 3mo though, and haven't seen too many reports on any of them lately.

Jay is a far greater resource than I however. In fact, I owe much of my surf-zone knowledge to he and Ken Hanley - reading all I could both in book and web form they've put out there regarding fly fishing in the surf. I took one of their surf classes too - they still available Jay ?

PM me if you'd like more specific info for location or setup -be glad to help.

Great opportunity. Where do I sign up?

I have been wanting to try the surf for a long time, but never got to it. I have Ken's Surf Zone book, just never put it into practice.
