Mr. Kiene and others,
Is there any interest in a rod building class? I'd like to learn.
With winter upon us it's time to increase skills.
Aloha,
Bill

There are practically no fly shops left in the country that teach rodbuilding. All of the local fly fishing clubs, however, have rod building classes, with fees that are typically for not much more than materials. Your best bet would be Granite Bay or Davis, because I think the Sacramento club lost its rod building instructor:

Granite Bay has one next month.... Contact Larry Lee, he's on the website...

I do know of a shop in WA that specializing in rod building. They can provide all the materiel, etc.. and have regular "open rod builders" tables, forums and classes. Too bad we don't offer this locally any more. See www.allaboutthefly.com They can give you some pointers. For online resources/catalog, etc.... www.hookhack.com has a good selection and ships fairly quickly.
Our barber and custom rod builder, Dave Hendricks, right down the the street from us, usually does rod building classes for the local Sacramento fly club, "California Fly Fishers Unlimited".
I see on their web site that Larry Lee is also involved in their rod building classes.
