Thread: American River Closure

    Default American River Closure

I can't remember when the closure for the upper portions of the river begins. I saw Bill post something saying that it was November 1st. But for some reason I remember it being November 15th in past years. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part since I have a few days this weekend to go fishing and I'd like the upper sections to be open. Thanks in advance for the help. Tight lines!

    Default Closures....

I'm a little confused by the last post. The Regs {7.50, (5), (C)} show the portion of the river described in Bill's post as open from 1/1 thru 10/31 (in other words, closed to fishing from 11/1 thru 12/31).

I haven't read the regs for some time but I have always remembered the Lower American closed from the power line to the dam November 1 thru December 31. I have also kinda just laid off at this time of the year and waited until the winter run gets going in January into spring. I've probably missed some spotty but decent fishing over the years by doing so.

    Fellas, let's be accurate here.

Fishing is closed from the Hazel Avenue bridge downstream to the power lines at Ancil Hoffman Park from November 1 to December 31 and it's been that way for several years.

It's not closed to the dam. The basin (from the Hazel Avenue bridge upstream to the dam) is open every day of the year to fishing, even barbed hooks & bait.

Ah, yes. The river does close on the first. Well, hopefully that will help whatever fish manage to show.
