Default Jeff Putnam cast well in the Yucatan last week.

Jeff recently landed this chrome beauty out of Tarpon Cay Lodge in the MX Yucatan.

    Ryan,

At that location, TCL, there are 'tons' of small Tarpon (5-30#) close to the mangroves in shallow clear water.

Then larger ones like this just off shore a few hundred yards to a mile. They run 40 to 100 pounds and much larger at times.

There are some Snook there too.

    They have two other locations.

Between them they have Permit, Bonefish, Baby Tarpon, Snook, Jacks, Barracudas, Ladyfish, Seatrout and Snappers.

We book all these places through Keith Kaneko at 'Angling on the Fly'.

    Summer is best.

This was an incredible place to visit. Rolling tarpon at first light is something every fly fisher should witness... and the fight is not to bad either! After hooking this fish it stayed with the school and swam under the boat with 50 other tarpon about the same size. I pulled hard on the fish to break him away from the school and he got a little irritated . He came flying to the surface and caught some air and battled me until I was about as tired as him. After 20 mins he was photographed and released. What a trip. Caught bones, snook, baby tarpon and barracuda. I'll have photogallery on my site soon with more pics. jp
