New Top Water Bugs

Just got back from Millerton Lake testing out and seeing if the new bugs would do what there suppose to do. I was casting at the main launch ramp into a bunch of trees just to see if the Hairy Crank Bait fly would do what it's suppose to do. When some guy who was putting his boat in the water told me that I wouldn't catch anything around there. He asked me if I wanted to go fishing with him.... Hey, I never turn down a boat ride, plus I was thinking he'd go to the back of the lake where there is alot of structure. Sure enough.
I showed him the Hairy Crankbait and he looked a little skeptical. After casting the fly towards the brush line, I was hoping it was going to do what it was designed to do.......... Yes, it did.... Dived and even wiggled through the water. I made a fourth cast when I got a gooooood grab. A Millerton Lake striper, not big, around 14" but the first I've ever caught out of the lake. Needless to say, the guy was surprised.
We fished a couple hours then headed back to the dock. Great guy and I had a great time....
Put the gear away, got into the truck and let out a BIG "YESSSSSSSSSSS". The fly worked.

Now I'm home making a few changes.

Well, here's the Hairy Crank Bait...Gotta find some other name for it

Ya know, I used to hate spinning deer hair but since I now know how to get thick bodies and multi-colored flies, I've gone bonkers.
I just received a big shipment of fantastic deer hair from Chris Helm. I also have some fine spinning hair from Wapsi. It comes in a 3" x 12" patch. I'm now in the process copying hard bait top water plugs, more crank baits and some different frog patterns.
Chris has this one deer hair that's frog green. But what I really need to do now is find some extra nice white deer belly hair. Most of the stuff you buy is coarse. Not beind a deer hunter, I wouldn't know what the texture of the belly is like. I would think if the body hair is fine wouldn't the belly be the same

If I get other patterns tied up, I'll post a few photo's, just enough so I don't bore ya

Nice bugs. Out of curiousity, what hook are you using? Looks a little heavier than normal.

I'm using a Gamakatsu B10S stinger hook. So far, it's been a good hook.
Actually, I tried out the Hairy Crank bait this morning. I will be posting a photo of a LMB I caught on the fly.

Here's a front shot of the Hairy Cranker. And a victim caught this morning before the weather changed. Got windy, cloudy and cold.

In the fish photo, I also used a blue graduated blue filter to help eliminate some of the hazy morning sky
