    Default Fishing is Awesome

Sometimes it is. Not always but sometimes. I got to thinking about what awesome fishing is for me. Everybody has different reasons for liking fishing so I thought I would list in order what makes for awesome fishing for me.

    1. Not too many dudes crowding the water, getting in my space or buzzing me in their boat.
    2. Don't have to drive too far or through some nightmarish traffic to get there.
    3. Probably going to have some action and maybe a chance for a big one.
    4. Good habitat. Maybe some birds or nice trees or wildlife and possibly some photo ops.
    5. Not going to get too beat up by the weather or the wind.

Looking at that I seem to be a fairly lazy angler who does not need great fishing and values nice surroundings almost as much as the good fishing. If I had to drive 3 hours to a crappy place with huge fish, I probably would not do it. To each his own.

Today I was in my kayak, and nearly all of my criteria were met. There was one boat that buzzed by me six times and made no effort to slow down. I have no idea what he was doing other than being a nuisance but it is public water so I guess he can do that.

The bass bite was not as good as the last two times out, but I caught enough. I also caught a 28" striper which I got casting for bass. It was holding in slow shallow water next to some deep current coming out of a slough mouth. That was cool. I am calling that my first striper of the fall season. It is not quite fall but close enough. Hopefully today's striper is a sign of good things coming in the fall season. If not, at least I got one good striper.

Next week low tide falls in the morning. I am thinking that might make for a good bass bite. We'll see.

It does lift the day. I flailed the water many days last fall and could not come up with an 8 pound fish so lucking into one while bass fishing is a score.
