Anybody been out to Heenan recently. I'm thinking about heading up late this week.
We went week before last. It was slow. I got 3 really nice ones, all on wooly bugger/wiggletail. Took most of the day and the mid-day was the best. Got two and then something large slammed my first wooly bugger and broke my 4X off so I switched to 3X and put on a Midnight Cowboy (the only other wooly bugger I had, we were trying chironomids) and got another one. All on a 2"/sec Rio "Lake Line". Blind pig gets another acorn...
Victor Babbitt is an old friend of mine who has one of the finest destination fly shops in America, Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters.
The shop is known for its quality of guides over the many decades.
Famous fly fisher and cinematographer, Mikey Wier, got his start here guiding for Victor.
Here is their fishing report for the areas around Lake Tahoe that they guide.

More info from "Carson NOW":
"Heenan Lake is catch and release only.
You can only use artificial lures or flies with barbless hooks. No gasoline motors are allowed on the lake, but you may use a carry down boat, canoe or float tube with an electric motor. Or, you can do it the old-fashioned way, by either paddling or kicking your way across. Shore fishing is allowed, although I would recommend not fishing either side of the dam unless you want to clean off weeds every other cast.
Best area to shore fish would be on the east side with small gold Kastmaster or a Thomas Buoyant spinner for spin casters. Wooly buggers, muddlers for fast cast fly anglers, or a Prince nymph or zug bug for slow cast fly anglers. The lake has Lohontan Cutthroat trout from 10 inches to 10 lbs, and all fish must be released unharmed. The report I got this week was that many anglers who fished before the rains caught and released 20 to 30 fish a day. You might even say, it was off the hook."
