My buddy underestimates his fish....
20180211_142716 by James Landis, on Flickr
We got a small blast of snow.....about 4".
It will be gone quickly......feels like Spring already.
Been having a great time fishing!
Flows are dropping quickly....fish now!
Temps are slowly rising with the low flow and warmer day temps, and water is very clear.
Drop down to 5x for dries and run.
This the Truckee, so if you decide to fish a dry, your chances are lower.
Not that it can't happen..........just be prepared to work for it.
One thing to remember.....if a Brown eats a Skwalla on the surface, say "God save the Queen" before setting.....seen several nice fish wiffed by an excited angler.....let them eat it........
The Little winter stone is good...tie one up.
Skwallas are out and about mid-afternoon. Soggy is best.
We occasionally have some larger Caddis, BWOs if cloudy, and our fav....Midges.
Swinging a streamer is not a bad idea.
I say again...fish now!
Treat'em nice.

Hey Jim
Love the winter stone pattern...and it being on the jig hook. Curious if you would share what you used for the legs and antennae? Looks like rubber legs but super duper thin. Have used a number of things in the past that have worked, but nothing that plays as well as whatever you used.
Hope you are well!

Looks like black crystal flash for the legs to me.

Hey guys.....
That is not my tie actually....I like the jig, but might have used a black hook....
We have many good tiers up here, and I'm pleased they share with me , so I can share too....Thanks Adam....
I believe Vinny is correct, but I will check for ya.
The bug is almost done for this year, but there may be a next year.....we will see.
Flows in town are very low.96 cfs....I ..go Go downstream for bigger flow.
No new snow accumulation, but none melting due to cold temps.
Chilly..3deg...bring a coat...a hat too...
Two rod lengths of line out and go fish.
Fishing has on/off, dramatic flow changes will do that......a saw-tooth profile on USGS flow report ......
https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ca/nwis/u...cd=00065,00060
This report shows the last stable flows and, stable fishing.........there are still the random fish to catch, but they are not all, on the same page.
The good news is, for the first time this winter, the storm door is opening............it could be winter........

Quick update, I was in the neighborhood yesterday so I stopped in on Glenshire for a couple of hours.
A lot of ice flows in the river making getting a good entry and drift difficult....also icing on the leader was a constant battle. Very clear water, saw a good number of fish but surely they also saw me. Got a couple of grabs, but LDR'd them.
Abandoned at 2:30 in favor of hot cocoa and a sandwich before driving back to Sac.

Bump! >>>>>
All my posts are daily from the river......no shops were called in making this report.....
Remember, no on-street parking this time of year....Keep'em wet! Treat'em nice!
