Thumbs up Sac river shad coming up now

I was fishing for stripers between Knights landing and Verona tonight and had a nice take down (on a swimbait ). A hard fight ensued, drag taken out by fish, couple of runs, I missed a couple of net shots...

I finally net the fish, turns out to be a mature male shad! Fought about three times as hard as a similar sized striper. No shad stuff on board to see if there was a pod coming up or if he was just a lone "scout". Anyway, here they come.

I think they could be at the mouth of the American River and the mouth of the Feather River now.

I would say fish for them at discovery out of a boat. Should pick some up. Maybe a few days till they get in the usual spots on the American.

How is the temp of the AR now compared to the Sac? Also, do you know how that may influence the shad run?

When I was running up there 57* down at the sac.... And up to 52-54* around the log hole area. What I know about temps is once it gets about 64* plus minus spawing starts. They are temp sensitive when it comes to spawing. As for the bit I will say it also effects them. And on the American river temps flex during water release and from my experience of a few years when water flow is changed as in from 500 to 1k the bit will also stop, and usually take a day or two to turn on again. There are members here that can add more plus I'm a bit tired writing at this hour
