I was very lucky to have been able to go a few years ago.
It was one of the best adventures of my life.
Thanks for the exciting pictures.......

Wow thanks for sharing. Beautiful pics of the birds. I'll put that trip on the list
Beautiful Doug! As always! A few of those birds look pretty close to ours... Only cooler :P That is such a pretty Heron and great pose!
How was the fishin?
Thanks guys. The Amazon jungle is one of the most beautiful places on earth. If you get the chance go.
Jay - they had 20 year low water. Fishing was off. The arowana fishing was better than I've experienced in the past but the big temensis peacocks were hard to find. The low water was a good thing / bad thing deal. Good because it forced lots of animals an birds into coming to main river for water - which made viewing better. Good also because it made for some spooky, technical sight fishing opportunities. Bad because it seemed to force most of the bigger fish into deeper sections of the river. Since I go as much for the jungle, low water wasn't much of an issue to me.
Thanks Mar. I don't know if it's an age thing or what but fishing has become, for me, as much about observing and experiencing nature as it is actually catching fish. That philosophy also gives me a great excuse to act all nonchalant and blasé when I fail to catch any fish.
Could be partially an age thing, but I think it's also a wiring thing.
For me, it's the total experience, and I get a kick out of seeing others catch fish (I do scratch the itch every once in a while). A few fish and then I'm ready to take pictures or sit around the campfire or take a hike.
I usually take the waterproof point-and-shoot on my AK trips for fear of harming the good gear. I've now decided that, since I'm in such a great place, I need to bring the good gear - and learn how to use it to its full capacity, which I'm working on. Photography and fly fishing have much in common, not the least of which is you never really master either, in my opinion.
Thanks so much for sharing the pictures.
