Default Road Trip..... 4 Lakes in 5 Days

I convince my wife that we needed to go see the fall colors and do a little fishing along the way.
10/5 First day i fished Heenan Lake while my wife walked around the lake looking at the fall colors, water temp. 58 degrees, caught 5 cutts at the inlet on a UV grey scud on intermediate line.

10/6 Fished Crowley for 2 days and caught the biggest rainbow for the year for me, water temp. 62 degrees, i fished Leighton Springs both days for 2 to 5 fish a day. I used a 3 inch. marabou streamer perch fly on intermediate line....the big rainbow was caught in 3 ft. of water.... Ripping, i also caught a nice brown in 16 ft. of water where most of the trout were.

10/9 Fished Frenchman Lake....water temp. 60 degrees and got my butt kick by the trout, i found some trout rising at Turkey Point and used all my go to flies for Davis Lake and never had one grab.....WTF

10/10 Fished Pyramid Lake....Water temp. 66 degrees....i didn't get any grabs...but i did see some cutts caught right next to me, i knew i was in the right spots, but they didn't like my fly hmmmmm. I won't say were i was fishing at, but i found some birds working some bait balls in 20 ft. of water next to a point. The board in Crosby Lodge had a couple of 20 lbs cutts weighed in already, and while i was buying my permit a man weight in 12 1/2 pound cutt he caught in 90 ft. of water lol.

Great looking fish there! Nice trip, too bad about the pyramid skunk though.

    Take care,

That was a tough day at that spot at Pyramid. Only person consistently catching was using jigs on spinning rod. I only hooked one there deep midging under a break away bobber. The few days before were very good there for my clients stripping minnows through bait balls.

Bill....We stayed in a motel at Mammoth Lakes to fish Crowley, and stayed in Reno at the Nugget to fish Frenchman and Pyramid....its only a hour + drive to Davis, Frenchman, and less time to Pyramid.

Great report Gene and some beautiful fish. Fortunately the Fall colors make up for the slow fishing. Davis has been beautiful the last couple of days but the fishing has been on the slack side. I'd heard Frenchman's was fishing pretty good but from your report it sounds like the same thing is going on over there...thanks for sharing.
Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.
