October should be good for Heenan Lake as soon as we get some cold weather.

I think November through May is a good large window for Pyramid Lake in NV.

Maybe try Davis Lake and Frenchmans?

I guess Pyramid Lake is already going for some of the top anglers up there.

Just saw this on Doug Ouellette Facebook page:

Pyramid Lake Opener! Matt "Gilligan" Koles and I released a bunch of nice Lahontan Cutthroat this morning at the Pyramid Lake opener. All were caught retrieving a Tui chub pattern. Our first Pyramid clinic of the season will be on October 25th. For more info go to

All the shore guys I talked to at 3 different beaches were skunked today. Fished next to probably 20 other guys at the 3 beaches I hit today and didn't see anyone land anything.

    Thanks Bill.

Answer for bartly- We were fishing in 25 feet of water. The fish were well out of casting distance. We were about 40 to 50 yards off shore. A float tube, pontoon boat or boat was defiantly a must. If you get a chance check out the website at www.pyramidlakeguideservice.com
    Good luck,

I agree with this assessment 100%. Saw the exact same thing. Look for chubs and you will find hot fish!

There are some reports over at Fishsniffer of gear guys boasting of big numbers of fish at Pyramid. They were working from a boat off the east shore.

A 4wt., 5wt. or 6wt. should be OK at Heenan. If I were to guess I'd suspect that a 5wt. or 6wt would be the most common rod weight.
