This is a very good video that gives you a true feel of a serious modern back packing trip in the beautiful high Sierras for Golden trout.
If this looks like too much for you, a shorter trip might work or as we have done, take a good pack trip with horses and mules.
In August, when it is terrible in the valley, it lovely up at 10,000 feet in the Sierras.

Sweet video, brings back many fine memories of backpacking the high sierras. We used to hike the Kern headwaters frequently, Goldens are special.

Every flyfisher at some point should go after Goldens, they are so unique to California. And very few are easy.
