    Default December stripers

Did some striper fishing the past few days. I took the kids last weekend and had a great time.
One of the rare times that big bro came along. They brought their Ugly Sticks and tossed some small swimbaits. No reward for their efforts but they got some good casting practice. I fished deep with clousers and hooked a few small LMB's and stripers.
They got to reel them in.

    Younger brother showing good form:

Big brother is up next, with little Cornholio watching

    First ever striper landed:

Running low on flies so I tied up some flies during the week:

I got a chance to sneak out this morning and fished the outgoing tide.

The weeds were still around but tolerable:

No love on topwater so I switched to the trusty clouser after an hour of casting practice.
Got a soft tap at the edge of the tullies. Felt like a small fish but then it started doing some pretty good headshakes. Pretty lethargic fish, gave up the fight pretty quickly. Nice 8-lber though:

On the very next cast, I got a harder hit. Nice long runs and a very spirited fighter. A chunky 9-lber:

I repeated the same pattern on the next few stops. Picked up 6 more schoolies along the way. They hit hard and made some nice runs. They seem to like the newly-tied clousers:

Not a bad Christmas present. I guess I've been good this year.

    Merry Christmas to all!

The only thing you could add to this fantastic day is the homeowners at Disco Bay running down their ramps and on to their docks offering you sandwiches, cold drinks and cocktails. Go Mar! Something to strive for in my book.

    Thanks all.
Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and got some good stuff from Santa.
Decided to spend my last 2013 fishing day in the Delta with my wife. Absolutely gorgeous late December weather and we even had a few fish cooperate. All of the bites were very subtle, mostly hitting during the pause. Hooked and landed a few schoolies, missed a few subtle takes and lost a couple of briefly hooked fish that felt heavy.
What a wonderful way to finish off the year!

Hoping for a few more of these in 2014:

    Fine winter Delta schoolie:
