    Default Baja Report 4/30

Here's what happened today down in Baja, California Sur.....Las Arenas area
This morning it was chilly and foggy along the water, especially around the outskirts of the island. Very little wind, actually I'd call it a breeze. But the bait had moved a little further north towards Punta Pila. This year I don't mind the boat ride for the bait. Do you remember last year
We got bait and Efren spent a little time fishing the area but soon said "wind up" we're going to the lighthouse for the roosters. Yep, they were there again. Along with Jacks and a dorado. When the dorado came to eat, Joan fed the fly perfect. Two strips and fish on. This fish made a fast exit and was out 200' in no time. After three long runs and a couple more jumps the fish came to the hand. It weighed 18lbs on the yoga...way to go Joan. She also had a couple jacks along with Steve's jacks..
    Today was Joan's day

18lb dorado caught on a sea habit sardine

A big school of jacks this size

Way to go Steve and Joan! Are you the only two down there with Jay this week? Is that why you are fishing with Efren? Does he have room for a bucket up on the bow? What is the PVC thing Steve is leaning on in the last picture?

    Thumbs up Dorado....

Congrats to Joan!! Nice Dorado. Some nice Jacks, too. No Roosters to day??? Maybe tomorrow.

Yes, steve made up a leaning brace for the boat. He had a metal one last year but came up with the heavy duty pvc brace. It helps you keep your balance. They are the only two people here this week, this coming week I only have 4 people to enjoy this fantastic fishing.

Darian, no roosters yesterday but we did see a bunch of big ones around the lighthouse, some to 50lbs. Maybe today they will hook into a couple. But the dorado are starting to show up at the beaches, also. I'm not in the boat today so I'm sure they will "hammer" the fish today. Gotta drive back to La Paz for a acupuncture appointment.
Just checked the weather and temperature report..... Starting friday, the temperatures are suppose to range 41 to 44c.. That's around 105 to 109.. Hey Phil, you complained about the cold, snowy weather... Don't worry you won't get that here

Hopefully more photo's and report to follow.

Do you keep the dorado for dinner? Gutsy move to wear all white around a gaffed dorado. Although I guess the color of your clothes doesn't make much different with a flopping bleeding dorado splattering blood all over.

Yes we did. The fresh dorado is better than anything you buy at a fish market. Fresh caught, fillet and put on ice.
I have a blue shirt with blood stains and to me it doesn't really matter what color you wear. If you wear dark clothing out there
you get much hotter because the dark material will absorbed the sunrays and heat
