Fly Line Dressing

I just wanted to know what most of you use for fly line dressing for sinking lines, and intermediate lines. I have just used mild soap for my wash and rinse but the lines are not as slick as they were when new. I have some RIO line cleaner and dressing that works good on my floating lines but when I tried it on my int. line it made it float untill I wore most of it off then it sank like normal. I thaught I might try some WD40 or spray silicone. Just need some imput what might work to get them back like new again. Thanks.

I have never used anything on the head portion of my sinking lines. Dressing a sinking line can make it sink slower. I might use some 303 Aerospace Protectant on a sinking line to keep it from cracking but I wouldn't apply it more than once a year. I use 303 protectant on floating lines and the running line portion of my Intermediate lines occasionally; but I clean them first with a mild soap or recommended line cleaner. 303 Protectant is is fabulous for keeping any Vinyl like new.

I have used Armorall for years. It not only cleans but protects modern lines.

Be very careful with all of these non-specialized cleaners, they can have very bad consequences on your line. Each manufacturer is different, and some do not need anything much more than a specially abrasive pad to open up built-in lubricant built into the line coating. Research the suggestions provided by the manufacturer before you go spraying some harsh chemicals that may completely ruin your pricey fly lines. For example Airflo lines are chemically inert so they are very easy to clean yet S.A., Rio, and many others are basic PVC coated lines that can be damaged if introduced to harsh cleaners. I generally use mild soap and water, and rarely use the micro abrasive pads from S.A..

Ummm...if you have to order it, perhaps you might consider Keine's Grizzly Hackle next time? Even if you can't get there, I bet they would mail it to you?

It's usually good form to scratch the back of your own back scratcher, at the very least don't tell your scratcher that your scratching someone else's back.
