    Default Mountain high bass

Hit up a little lake in the mountains that has only given me small bass and sunfish. Well this time the lake showed me what it can hold. I fished for about 2 hours in the afternoon and only got 3 fish, but they were 3 real nice bass. I was throwing one of my favorite poppers for bass when all of a sudden I saw something that made my jaw drop. I have never seen a bass in this lake over 12 inches, I have heard rumors, but never seen bigger. The water erupted and it was game on. I caught 3 in a matter of 15 minutes and it was a blast. I won't mention the lake but I will say it is above 4,000 feet and the view is awesome. The smallest was 20" and I think the biggest was about 24" or 26" and heavy.

So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I can't believe that those hog largemouth thrive in there! Maybe the planter truck gets lost sometimes and drop the trout in on accident?

    No smallies?

    Hey Scott - Good catches!!

Thanks for not mentioning this lake by name on the interweb. Around 2004 or so, there was an article about this lake in a major Californian fishing periodical. By ~2007, we weren't seeing/catching any pound+ fish, and would only see a couple spawning beds in the entire lake. So it's very encouraging to see that the fish are being allowed to grow.

We spend 5-6 days a year there, normally camping there on Memorial Day weekend.

It wasn't so warm a few years back:

Nice job chasing down a rumor Scott. Well done.
I wonder just how long it takes a bass to attain that size in a mtn lake. Gotta be much longer than in our warmer waters.
