First of its kind...
For those of you interested in ensuring the next generation of river-minded stewards…
Here is an opportunity to make the first children’s aquatic invertebrate book a reality.
If everyone gives just a little and passes this onto their friends, this book will become a reality!
From the author (Lynell Garfield-Qualls):
I have embarked upon a great journey, and would love for you to join me. After years of working with students in our western streams, and realizing the lack of fun and educational river stories for young ones, I've written a children's book.
Help Loralei emerge as the voice of the river! I am raising funds to pay for the two-dimensional artwork part of this great book. I am blessed to have two academic sponsors who have each dedicated matching funds, if I can raise $8k by December 1. Please visit my project site on KickStarter, site below, to find the great rewards I have set up for you, even with just a small donation: first edition copies of the book, keepsake Loralei, Kassidy, and Gus bookmarks, classroom readings for elementary classes, and more.

This is the first kids' field guide for streams: The story is told by Loralei the Mayfly, and then it becomes a field guide at the end, so kids will get out and splash around their local creeks, to see who from the story they might find. This book might give kids experiences they never would have had... this will help kids build caring connections with the natural world... and will encourage them to explore and get out into our open spaces.
You could say we are competing with play stations and television, in catching the attention of our kids and turning them towards life-long conservation and thinking about friends downstream!
Since the Kickstarter funding mechanism is "all or nothing," by your forwarding this to friends and others who may be interested in this idea, it will help me "go viral" - this is paramount to the project getting funded by my deadline of December 1. Please Pass this Along!
Thank you so very much for coming along on this adventure!
Warmly,
Lynell Garfield-Qualls (or, Elle Marie - and Loralei the Mayfly)
I have a personal interest in this book getting published, because I have donated my time and resources to illustrate the field guide portion of this book. Please consider donating anything you can afford, or ask your local TU or fishing group to make a contribution.
Thank you,
Jason Barnes
