Another New Show - Guide Stories
Saturdays mornings are loaded with great stuff on the Outdoor Channels and I just happened onto a new one for me anyway. It's called Guide Stories.
This episode took place in Stewart Florida (Bill's neck of the woods) and the boat left the ramp with no certain species in target but just a chance at whatever was around. As they cruised the beaches several large schools of Jacks showed up. Not so much in a feeding mode but daisy chaining in large rounds like tarpon.
The two guys on the boat were throwing poppers on big spinning rods to get the distance needed (no fly rods here), These big jacks (Jack Crevalles) immediately reminded me of the GT's I love in the Pacific and are their first cousins.
I caught many of these in the keys and elsewhere but non as large as the ones shown here. All seemed over 20 pounds. I've taken them in Baja too but nothing quite this large.
So, Bill, when is the best time to come for these Atlantic GT's ? I love the GT's around Christmas Is. and Aitutaki but getting to Florida is a whole lot easier and less expensive.
