Default Delta Watch Program with CalTIP

    Delta Watch
Together We Can Help Stop Poaching

    • Currently there are 6 Wardens that look out for striped Bass Poaching in the California Bay Delta system. That’s 12 eyes and ears watching over 2000 miles of waterways.

    • You can help by choosing to be a part of Delta Watch. Just like neighborhood watch helps keep our communities safe from crime. Delta Watch can help improve our striped bass fishery by stopping poaching.

    • Our 6 striped bass wardens need your eyes and ears looking out for poachers.

    • How can you be of Help?
    1. Be observant become educated how poachers operate.
    2. Have binoculars on board your vessel so you can record CF numbers if you see suspicious activity.
    3. Make note of any suspicious vehicle license plates
    4. Have the Cal-tip number handy on your vessel and become educated as to how Cal-Tip works. Put the Cal-Tip number in your cell phone for easy access.
    5. 1 (88 DFG-Cal TIP, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
    1 (88 334-2258
If you witness a poaching or polluting incident or any fish and wildlife violation, or have information about such a violation, immediately dial the toll free Cal TIP number
Be prepared to give the fullest possible account of the incident including the name, address, age and description of the suspect, vehicle description, direction of travel, license number, type of violations and when and where it occurred. Your identity will be protected.
A warden or dispatcher will take your call. Information from the call is relayed to the Fish and Game region where the offense occurred and an investigation is undertaken locally. If the information supplied by the caller results in an arrest the caller becomes eligible for a reward. (Rewards up to $1,000 have been paid.) All reward money is acquired through private donations; no state funds are used. The case is then reviewed by a volunteer citizen's group known as the Cal TIP Citizen's Review Board.

    Question Department Focus....

Not sure where you're going with this but the original note was posted in 2005.... As I understand it, the effort is citizen directed to assist wardens in times of reduced staff and resources for protecting delta resources and represents no change in department focus from Salmon to Striped Bass.

Often times... a call to Cal Tip is like a post about illegal spearfishing on Kiene's board...

The hosts believe it too political to want to get involved.

Sad in my not so humble opinion...

For the record... I had the consent of both Warden Allan Weingarten and Chief Ranger, Stan Lumsden to post the info I did on this board regarding freshwater spearfishing regulations as applicable to the American River Parkway.

This is how our rights get revoked.
