Cold weather often moves the fish into different water than folks are used to fishing. The "walking speed" water isn't near as productive during a cold snap. Look for ver slow water with good depth and even current and present your fly SLOWLY and deep. Once the water dips below 40 degrees it's a different ballgame. Not trying to be critical just offering a possible thing to try next time if you didn't on the last trip.

I was up there a couple of weeks ago and it was bitterly cold. We had ice forming on our guides until the fog burned off around noon. No fish until the sun came out and things warmed. I think the cold is definitely a factor, there were fish in every hole. When we finally gave up on the first couple of spots we saw all the fish scatter when we drifted over them. From about 10:30 till dark we hooked into about 15 fish and landed 6 or 7. Just awesome colorfull fish full of fight and totally clean. Even on a slow day that river is like a slice of heaven. Definitley beats the pants off of banging it out shoulder to shoulder on the American.
