Dsiplay Boxes

Howdy-
I am planning on making a couple of display cases, with flies inside, for some buddies this holiday season. I have seen some at the shop, etc. but can't find too much info about them online, aside from purchasing them.
Has anyone had any experience building them?
Mainly curious about what to use for a solid hold of the fly?

I've seen lots of flies mounted on plastic or acrylic rod and then stand off the backing so as to appear floating.

Any Michael's has a great frame selection and they carry quite a few shadow boxes too.
