Thread: Putah 10/4

    Default Putah 10/4

Fished just below the 128 bridge from 9am - 11am.

    Landed 3 from 10" to 15".

Lost an absolute monster, I would guess 5lb + to a poorly tied knot.

Two fish took a yellow egg and the other two a size 22 red midge.

Water is still high but fishable.

    Good luck if you go!

Katz, I'll take those 3 plus a monster for 2 hours of fishing any ol' day. Sounds like you had a blast!

Yeah, Putah can be a great location for size and quantity if you get it all right.

    Right Time/Right Fly/Down deep/etc/etc.

It gets really good in November as they come up to spawn and is FF only.

Katz...What patterns do you recommend for winter Putah flying?

    Thanks.

    Default november

I agree, November is the best time. Less trash and way fewer knuckelheads on the water. I would be nice if that date was October 15 instead of later. That would help the brown population a lot. Evening dry fiy fishing should be good soon as well. I'll be up there next week! Paul

Too True. Oct 15th close to bait etc. would be great.

I have been in that gas station at Solano Lake bridge and there are pics of 10lb + browns on stringers.

There is a real hook-em and cook-em attitude about the fish in there. Worm fisherman really hurt the brown # while they are spawnning in October.

Hope to catch you out there soon.

Fly patter recommendation for the winter.

Yellow egg. The rainbows have yellow eggs the color of this guy

If fishing two flies, I will use a yellow egg or San Juan Worm in front of

Either a size 20-22 blood midge (red) or a size 20-22 olive midge in back.

This combo usually works very well.

Stay deep. Should be picking moss off the flies every few casts.

    Good luck.
