Well folks,.... Hurricane John came ashore near East Cape as a category 2 storm, downgraded to a category 1 storm and continued up thru La Paz....

Not much info coming out from that area but I can assure you that a lot of the poorer people that live in small villages in/around the area and those on the outskirts of La Paz have probably suffered losses of everything they own and maybe their lives. up to 12' of rain and hurricane force winds. Roads are undoubtedly washed out and relief must be choppered in by the Mexican army/navy.... The damage from hurrcane Ignacio (2003) had not been completed when I was down in La Paz in June.

Anyway,.... Hurricane John is predicted to head NW, over the peninsula and out to sea. The predictors are the same ones who said it would barely touch Baja. I'm just hoping this storm doesn't prove them wrong and head right up the Sea of Cortez into SoCal and Arizona. As it is it'll still be a tropical storm by then....
