Last Weekend at the Pit. Good Times!

A good friend and I went to the Pit last weekend and stayed at Deep Creek Campground. What a beautiful place! We did not see another person the entire time that we were there. We had the whole place to ourselves! Some of the water there was warm, and full of squaw fish, but other parts were nice and cool and held fat, strong rainbows. Black flies seemed to be the ticket (stoneflies and Bird's Nests). There were only a couple of fish rising in the evening. So I threw on an EC Caddis. The moment my fly hit the water a fish took it. Too my surprise (and disappointment) it was a squawfish. I didnt even know that they hit dry fly, but apparently they do.

We didnt have wading staffs so we ended up pretty wet. No hiking along the river downstream for us. We just jumped in and let the water take us down. It was a lot of fun. On the drive home we stopped at that Casino on the side of I5 and even won a little money, which helped pay for gas! This was my first trip to the Pit and I cant wait to go back. FUN PLACE!

The Pit is my favorite Trout stream , bar none .

Try it again in late October Matt ....... those fish will fight even harder in cold fall water !!

Nice pictures! Those Pit River trout are fat and healthy. I looks like you guys fished #3, am I right?

It was Pit 4... i think... We hiked hiked up the river a bit from Deep Creek and worked (floated/swam) our way down.

Adam: What setting do you like to use on your camera when youre on the water? I think we have the same camera. I have been using the "Snow and Surf" setting. Any advice is appreciated.
