    Default Kimberely, BC cuttthroat report

Two weeks ago my dad and i fished the St. Mary's and the Elk river near Kimberely, BC with Kelly from St. Marys Angler. First day on the St. Mary's we hooked somewhere around 80 westslope cutthroat all on dry flies, mostly chernobyl ants, from 10-17". There were times where we were hooking fish every thirty seconds. It was some of the best dry fly fishing i have evr done, not to mention the fact that we never saw another angler or boat the enitre day! We also had a few bull trout come up and try to eat some of the cutthroats we hooked. My dad had one 15" cutthroat get eaten by a 30+" bull trout but spit it out right near shore. Second day we fished the famous Elk River near Fernie. Fishing was a little slow but we managed to hook 20 westslope cutthroats from 14-20" on dries and i landed to bull trout on streamers going 17" and 24". These were big beautiful fish but they did not fight nearly as hard as the fish on the St. Mary's. Here a few pics. I would have taken more but i was too tired from catching fish, ha ha!!!

Nice job Jason, I just knew there some fish out there somewhere that might eat a dry fly. Hmmm? BC huh? Glad to see you're back!

That is a killer pic of the bull trout!!! What a great time... with your dad to boot. Thanks for the report!
