Default The modification to my Pentax Optio W10

I have order the new Pentax Optio W10 camera for myself. It should arrive on Monday, I'm veryexcited!

My friend Hogan Brown just bought the same camera, on my suggestion, and he really likes it. He even let me play with the camera for a while, very nice.

The W10 is fully waterproof up to 10' for 30 minutes at a time. It is a 6mp digital camera with a great movie mode (30 fps @ 640x480) The camera has some very cool features like a soft flash and in-camera red-eye reduction.

The W10 is sold for $300 or less, about $250 on most websites. A great value for us fisherman who tend to get wet once and awhile. I especially like the underwater movie mode when taking video of the release of caught fish, cool videos. The underwater still picture look great as well.

You can be very sure that I will be posting many more pictures to come.

Over the past week I have been researching one of my new photography ideas. This new idea involves a slight camera modification.

I devolped this new modification because I want the use of a polarization filter to reduce water glare, increase the blue of the sky and the greens in foliage (just like looking through polarized sun glasses.) I figured out that I could superglue a "step-up ring" (25mm to 27mm) to the front of my new Pentax W10 then I could screw in a 27mm circular polarizing filter.

Here is a picture with the step-up ring already glued to the camera body and the UV filter laying on the top of my new pride and joy.

I will order the circular polarizer as soon as I give the UV filter a try outside during the day, most likely tomorrow during the 4th of July celebration. I want to make sure that this modification will work as well as I hope.

I'll let you guys know how it goes. If it goes well maybe some of you guys could modify your own digital cameras to be able to shoot with a polarization filter when taking picture outdoors.

I will be ordering my circular polarizer soon but today I bought a wide-angle converter (0.5x) designed for use on a camcorder. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked on my camera.

My living room before the wide-angle lens.

My living room with the WA lens attached.

This WA lens will allow me to capture a wider landscape while I'm out fishing in various different beautiful suroundings.

The lens is large and looks kind of funny on my small slim camera but it works well.

I can't wait to try the WA lens with my polarizing filter. I took pictures outside today with my UV filter but I saw no noticable difference. Depending on the angle of the sun in relationship to the lens of my camera there was a little bit of reflection from the inside of the step-up ring but only in a few positions...not a big problem.

I'll keep you guys up to date with my process.
