Default Delta report - April 24

Well I decided to put away the lead core and launch my 2006 buggin' campaign this morning. Spurred on by a tip off from KD I sallied forth armed only with a floater and some baby parrots tied over the (long, oh so long) winter. Must admit I began to regret it when I clocked the water temp at 57f. However, bass obviously don't read thermometers 'cos I had action from the start with 7 or 8 blow ups in a couple of hours. I was having a blast but rather concerned that nothing would stay stuck. Then along came this baby for her breakfast:

She boga'd at 6.5lb and I nearly lost her in the weeds but Mr Minn Kota and my net came to the rescue.
Guys I've been fortunate enough to catch some really nice fish over the years but I swear this one gave me as much, if not more, pleasure as anything in the past.
Had to pack in at noon 'cos I'd left my bloody sandwiches on the kitchen table.
Delta Buggin' is a drug and KD is the pusher - thanks again Kevin!

Holy moly, that is a nice, fat fish!! But you quit for sandwiches?!?

You wouldn't have a picture of one of those baby parrots, would you? Do they float on the surface? How were you fishin' them? Fast? Slow? Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks for the report, I find it very encouraging!

    Hi Mike

    Here's one:-

Retrieve is a more or less continuous series of short, sharp strips - not so much fast as deliberate - that cause the bug to "bloop" in the water rather than pop across it the way it would with a more open face. Think panicky frog with two sprained ankles The other big difference from your Tap's bug are the three pairs of tail feathers. My early attempts tied these much too short. With this version you get a lively scissors kick on each strip.
Here's another one with an open face. I've not given this one a swim yet but the idea is it will kick up more of a ruckus and get more attentionwhen the water is choppy:-

    All the best
    Mike

    Nice fat bass. Goo job.

I like your flies, especially the diving frog.

We all need to concerntrate on the warm water fishing for the next few months.

Normally April/May/June is the big Spring time action for bass and panfish.

I would be out there from now on as long ass the sun is shinning.

Nice bass Mike, I like your flys also. The weekend should be awesome with the weather in the 80's
