    Default What about the "Categories"??

Looks like "General Fly Fishing" is the biggest deal (1048/6165) naturally.

Then "Steelhead/Salmon" (331/1860) and "Fly Tying" are pretty close. (180/1977)

Then "Saltwater" (241/917) , "Warmwater" (121/889) and "Stripers" (149/799) are close.

I like having the categories but they have some drawbacks too. Some will have no interest in some of the categories so they don't have to shuffle through all that other "stuff".

We just had a comment that we have no "Trout" category, well we don't have a "Stream Trout" or "CA Stream Trout"?

We have "Stillwater Trout" and "Out of State Trout".

????? I know we can't make everyone happy too.

I like the categories, although I read everything that gets posted on this site anyway (as do several others), so I suppose it doesn't make much difference to me. I've always thought that the "General Fly Fishing" category is where the "Trout" posts go, since that's historically where they've shown up.

I think too many categories can just about kill a board. I know of at least one board where that seems to have happened. Folks on that board are posting just about everything under one category despite numerous categories available -- I think to be sure their posts are seen and not lost in the forest.

Having said that, I do think maybe the "New Products" category should be changed to just "Gear" or something in order to centralize questions about products and encourage folks to post their experiences with various gear they've tried. Just something to think about.

Maybe combine the stillwater trout and out of state trout. I also like "gear" instead of "new products" it is more general, like Mike said.

    Default Categories...????

Seems to me that there's room to include Trout in the Salmon/Steelhead category if we need that one. The GENERAL category seems to get too many subjects that could be under others.

Mike's point about too many categories may be valid.... I kinda feel that there are too many, myself. For example, the ENTOMOLOGY category was popular initially but not much interest, lately.

...how about expanding the Fly Tying section to include a Pattern Data Base with maybe a step-by-step component? Thom

I second Thom, a fly pattern database section would be cool. Brian
