There have been two drift boats lost in the Americvan River in the past few weeks because a tree has fallen into the water.

We are hoping that the local governments agencies can get the tree removed but until then be very careful.

HERE'S THE LATEST UPDATE:

Wanda & Bob,

We have tried to get at the tree that is in the river and found that it will take a major operation to get it moved. On an interim basis we are posting signs at Sailor Bar and Upper Sunrise at launch areas to warn boaters of the hazard. We will be looking at the possibility of using heavy equipment to pull it out on the south bank as the north bank is a bluff that is inaccessible. Bill Griffith has offered to shuttle cables for us if that is necessary. An increase in river flows might finish pulling this tree away from the bank and floating it downstream but there is no scheduled increase currently.

I would recommend advising through River City Paddlers, as Steve Streng has, that this section of river has a tree that is hazardous.
