Default Delta still good for those who go...............

Doug Muraki and his uncle Dave Muraki have been sneaking around the Delta this winter with some good success.

Doug says they are looking for dead end sloughs with slightly warmer temperatures and then finding fish held up in deeper holes.

Doug said to use a slow retrieve and many fish come on the 'drop'.

Andy Guibord and Joe Shirshac have had some good days recently too.

Here is an email from Doug's father today, Feb 7.

    "Hi Bill

Hope all is well with you. This is Doug Sr.

Doug Jr just called me tonight to say that he caught a bunch of real nice Stripers in the Delta today. One was so big it stripped his line to his backing and broke him off. He lost everything including his sink tip, fly line etc.

At least he knows a great fly shop to go to to get a replacement.

    Best

    Doug Sr."

I guess we better get down to the Delta soon?

If Doug is ever forced to fish alone, I'm sure one of us would be happy to help him out sometime.

I'm pretty good with a Boga!

    Bill (or anyone) -

Are most of these fishermen hitting the East and South Delta?

I will try to get out in the North Delta soon a give a report.

I think that some are fishing the northeast Delta now.

I think the fish are hold up in deeper holes in the dead end sloughs looking for a little warmer water.

This sun should help things a bit.

I think March can be a big month in the Delta.

Then in April most all the fish start heading north to the Colusa area on the Sacramento River to spawn.

People are using really bright flies with more flash or really dark like black or purple with more flash.

I hear they are fishing deeper and really slow with more stops.
