He might have meant the gold miners messing up the river?
The Klamath River is good Sept/Oct/Nov and has made a big comeback in the past 5 years or so.
It was very slow in the '80s and early '90s.

Yes, they still do exist. In fact, many small dredge operators are still doing their thing on the river. Wade carefully!

The problem that I have found is that a "test" hole can happen in a run that you had walked down two days before. Miners will do test holes to see what kind of color they get before staking a claim. This happened to me a few years ago at Green Riffle. So be carefull
Fishing is always good, the catching may not be.
