    Default Green River Wyoming

Having moved from Davis to Cheyenne recently I had to cross the Green River on which I caught 2 16" cutthroats. I learned that the big browns sometimes head north from the Flaming Gorge to spawn in October. So with last weeks Columbus Day Weekend (got to love working for the government) I went back again with hopes of a big weekend. unfortunatly I landed only 3 fish, 2 browns and a rainbow. Not a great weekend but it was my birthday and I was lucky enough to get one of the big browns, the largest trout I have ever caught, 23"!! He was safely returned after the photo to get bigger

Brian... What fly did you use? Beautiful fish... Watch out for grizzlies when you're out fishing. Enjoy your new home. SullyTM

Sully, I am using a sculpin pattern that I discovered at Ken's in Bridgeport. They are the only ones that carry this fly. It's tied by Solutude fly company which is in Mammoth. It's tied with a thin brown /rusty barred squirrel strip, gold dumbell eyes and a yellow / gold SLF dubbing. It looks more lively than the woolhead versions I have seen and by design it is easier to clean off the green algae that gives the Green river it's name.
    here it is

and a brushed back rear shot showing the underbody

I swing it like a steelhead fly on a T200 line to keep it down in the current and give it a few twitches before retrieving.

Bill, since I retired from the U.S. Air Force as a precision measurement electronics laboratory technician (RF Microwave test equipment calibration engineer) I wanted to find a similar job in th civilian world since I really loved my job. That led me to a search of companies in areas with 1. mountains 2. lower cost of living and 3. outdoor recreation nearby. When I heard the contractor at F.E. Warren AFB here in Cheyenne had an opening I jumped right on it. Same job as in the military with no stress. Lower cost of living and same good pay as pre retirement. That and the fact that there is no state income tax, my home on 6 acres was $165K, I'm 15 minutes to fishing a local resevoir, the North Platte is just over an hour, and there is no traffic gridlocked on I 80 . Oh yes the wind and cold will come and it snowed +2" at my place on Monday but was gone by Wed. So far I'm enjoying myself. I'll let you know when I've had enough of all this outdoors stuff
