    Default SoCal Rock Fishin'....

This one is for the SoCal guys out there..... When I living in SoCal, I used to hike down the cliffs at Palos Verdes to fish in the coves and off the points between Rocky Point and Malaga Cove. A variety of baits were all good but the best for a couple of fish types (Opaleye and Catalina Blues) was frozen green peas.... Has anyone used a green fly for this purpose down there

What brought this up is a post on Bulla's BB about a "veggie fly".... The tyer posted a photo and it looks a lot like Eel Grass....

Any info from you guys on this

    Say Hey Darian,
The first Opaleye I ever caught was on a frozen pea (back in the late 70's). I have had some success with small green glo bugs since that time. I also have had some success with a few pieces of green antron hanging off the hook (nothing fancy indeed). Veggie-style flys are well worth exploring for Opaleye and many other "grazing species."
    Cheers, Ken
