Is there any place near Fort Bragg to Fly Fish??????
Is there any place near Fort Bragg to Fly Fish??????
I don't know that far up the coast for fly fishing but there are some little rivers up there.
December through February is winter steelhead time up there.
Might be some salmon/steelhead in the tide water now very near the ocean?
The Noyo River comes out just south of Fort Bragg.
I think you can take the 'Skunk Train' up river and get off to fish? Maybe. It goes over the hill to Willits on Hwy 101.
This would be in Jan/Feb.
You might catch some rock fish or surf perch up there now?

You haven't said what time of the year or whether you want to try fresh or salt water fly fishing but there're opportunities for both over there. In the current time frame, you could fish in Lake Cleone, located in McKerricher State Park for Trout and Black Bass or Sonoma Lake for the same fish plus other warm water species. You could choose to fish for surf perch at local beaches or rock fish at the jetties at Noyo Harbor (or other harbors/piers from Pt. Arena thru Ft Bragg). You could, also, choose to fish for rock fish from the Mendocino Headlands in Mendocino.
I'd recommend that you go to Bookwinkles (a book store) in Mendocino and try to locate a copy of "Mendocino County Coastal Fishing & Diving Access Guide". This booklet contains info about potential fishing spots for the entire coastline of Mendocino County..... \/
Happy reading and good luck....
