    Default Bill-Tarpon fly line?

    Hi Bill,

Could you tell me the Tarpon fly line you recommended when I was in the shop several weeks ago? forgot.

    It was dark gray, right?
If so, can you tell me why you selected this particular line and color?
Do you recommend uplining? If so, how much?
Is this the same 8 wt. outfit and line you use for snook?

    Thanks for your input,
    Lee

I emailed Bruce Richards of 3M/SA about 6 months ago and asked him if they had a tropical line for casting off the hot deck of a boat that was a little shorter than the Master 'Bonefish' WF8F and WF9F.

He said the SA Ultra4 Bonefish (6-9) and Tarpon (10-13) are 5 feet shorter. They are also a darker color of gray.

We are recommending a #8 weight rod with a Ultra4 WF9F Bonefish and a #9 rod with an Ultra4 WF10F Tarpon for baby tarpon and snook.

    Default Gray fly line

    Bill,

Did Bruce say why he preferred gray for flats tarpon and bonefish?
I assume it is invisible when casting?
I know they liked the "horizon blue" color for a while, for that reason.

It is interesting that Del Brown had all of his Sage rods (flats/permit) painted "horizon blue" to camo against the sky.

    Thanks Bill,

    Lee

Bruce picked that line series for me for the 5 foot shorter belly.

I think the color was just what it comes in.

He said they talk about adding it to the Mastery series and call it the 'Backcountry Line'.
