Well, I have voted for chartreuse, since a chartreuse and white Clouser, with pearl Flashabou and silver Krystal Flash, is my favorite subsurface fly for largemouth, smallmouth, and striped bass. For trout, though, I would probably vote for either insect green or olive. I have a lot of confidence in insect green, based on success, but have to admit olive is probably the most versatile subsurface fly color for me, since it covers various caddis patterns, damsel fly nymphs, a good all-around woolly bugger color, etc.

Reddish brown has been my favorite color for underwater freshwater streamers and nymphs, especially for Yuk Bugs for browns and rainbows, and as a thread color in tying various nymphs.

Don, yeah, I had forgotten about reddish brown. I've heard of folks just killin' 'em with Jay Fair Wiggly Tails in that color.

    Default Underwater Color

Altho I have no actual favorite, I chose Chartreuse for the reason that that's in my current area of interest. However, in fresh water my choice is Black. It works in clear or off colored water and at night. As Adam has pointed out it provides a great silhouette in all of those water conditions.....
