    Default Simple Pleasures

    Simple pleasures.

I nice little cigar after a nice day on the water.

Sometime it's not all about the fishing and more about relaxation and fun with friends (even if they do look crazy like Chucky, third picture from top).

P.S. Cigars are not smoked after every trip, smoking is not very healthy.

Does anyone else treat themselves and friends after a day of fishing?

    Default Treats???

Hi Adam,..... I've been know to treat during or after a day of fishing, succesfull or not.... I have only one vice at this point, good Single Malt, Irish Whiskey. Served straight up in a snifter with coffee on the side. MMmm, MMmm

Not a "goody two shoes" but I've never been a smoker (didn't even try it once). Don't go to casino's in Reno after visiting Pyramid Lake anymore as they're too smoky for me. I gotta say, I don't mind if anyone lights up around me as long as I'm upwind and there's 100 yards between me and them....

I can totally relate to this thread. David? Where's David? I was a single malt scotch fan until David treated me to some world-class single malt Irish whiskey. Amazingly smooth stuff. Still a big Scotch fan but, until I taste something better, I think the Irish have the edge....

Having said all that, when I'm out bass bugging in the Delta, I LOVE to take a break while I'm out on the water in my kayak, pour myself a cup of coffee from the Thermos, and kick back with a smoke and enjoy the scenery, the sunshine, the peace and tranquility of being out there on the water in my inflatable easy chair. Truly one of life's great pleasures....

    Heroin and Vodka .....

Just kidding , the only things I do when I come in from a long day on the water are brush my teeth (to get rid of that "fishin' all day breath") and a nice , hot shower to wash off the river funk (I wet-wade most of the time ....) .
I also loosen the drag on my reels and open the fly boxes I've used that day to fight off rust . Hose off the boots , that kind of stuff .

I smoke a pack a day - worst habit that there is , IMO . If you haven't started smoking , DON'T - quitting is one of the hardest things to do , so stay away . Beers and Bushmills once in a while , but less and less as I get older .

Mostly , I think about how lucky I am to have this life , my wife and pets , and the few I call friends - THAT is a treat !! D.J.L.

David, I agree family and friends are a treat

But they sure get in the way during a day of fishing

I used to smoke cigarettes, gave it up about 15 years ago, but still love cigars. Got into it really bad during the cigar boom of the 90's and got a pretty educated palate for the good ones (Padron, Fuente Hemmingway and Don Carlos, Onyx, to name a few favorites). Now I realize that the cigars are just as bad for me so my former cigar habit of 6-10 a week is now 2-3 a month. I make it a treat and only smoke em when I really want to sit down for an hour and quietly do nothing. Like alchohol I seldom indulge myself with them, but anything in moderation in the name of quality and enjoyment is OK in my book. Don't appologize for the occasional indulgence, a stogie here and there doesn't make you a smoker anymore than a drink every now and then makes you an alcoholic.

After a good days fishing a smoke with friends is a nice time. Tell chuckie not to inhale next time

For years when ever I would go fishing with my good friend Bob Giannoni, he would always brings along some cigars.

Years ago we use to have packs of 'Swisher Sweets', which are small cheapy cigars that were probably $1.00/pkg in the '70s.

Now Bob has move up from near the bottom to near the top level. Kind of like single malt scotch or fine wine. When we go now Bobby G will mail order some pretty high end, but at a good value, cigars for our trip.

I am not a cigar aficionado but I can tell the difference now.

That does not diminish the memories we have in the old "Swisher Sweets" days.

PS: Alan and I did that pic years ago of Andy with photoshop adding the pipe and smoke.
