Default Indian River Lagoon / Mosquito Lagoon

I have hired a guide and am booked to go redfishing mid April in the Indian River Lagoon Area in Florida. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I've never fished the area nor fly fished for Redfish so this should be interesting.
What flies work? What should I be aware of? Are there wading possibilities for the day after/before fishing with the guide? What weather should I expect? Are these long casts into wind?
    Any information would be appreciated.

Default Re: Indian River Lagoon / Mosquito Lagoon

That is a good time on the central east coast of Florida. Any warm month is usually good except Sept/Oct is serious hurricane season.

The Indian River Lagoon is somehting like 100 miles long.

We have a little home 2 miles from it in the town of Seabastian which has more Snook and Tarpon than up north.

    Where are you staying?

Most use 9' #7, 8 and 9 weight rods for that area.

    Lots of wading.

Up by Titusville is the Mosquito Lagoon for Refish and Sea Trout.

There is agood fly shop north of us in Titusville, "The Flyfisherman".

There is a good fly shop in Vero Beach south of us, the Backcountry.

Three of our grandkids are 30 minutes away too. Tarpon and grandkids is pretty cool.

One of the top guides in the titusville area is John Turcot

A top guide south of there in Vero is Eric Davis, owner of the Backcountry Shop.

April, May and June is prime tarpon time in the Sebastian/Vero area according to Eric.
