    Default Mendocino area flyfishing

Does anyone have experience in the Mendocino area? I am up there all the time and would love to cast a bit while I'm there. Species and flies would be helpful. I have either a 200, or 300 grain sinking line with my 8 wt so and reccomendations would be great!

    Hi Gregg,

The most helpful thing you could do is take on of Jay & Ken's Surf Perch clinics.

Keith Kaneko took one in the summer before last and said he really learned a lot.

Ken Hanley as a video that we have in our rental fleet that is on coastal fly fishing.

    Default Mendocino Area

Hi Gregg,...... It helps to think Mendocino as an area rather than a destination. There're many types of fishing in that area. Each involving a short drive but all very interesting.

Lets start with Freshwater. There's the Navarro, Noyo/Ten Mile Rivers for Steelhead/Salmon. Most of the creeks north of Ten mile River are for Surf Fishing or surf smelt netting. There're numerous rocky areas throughout this area that are good for rockfishing. In Mendocino are the Headlands. There's a lake in McKerricher State Park That has Black Bass/Trout in it. McKarricher is, also, very good for rockfishing and surf casting/netting. Throughout this area is good abalone diving. Try Russian gulch or Van Damme State Parks....

Actually, you should visit a book store in Mendocino called "Bookwinkles" and purchase a booklet titled, Mendocino County Coastal Fishing & Diving Access Points" by Rouvaishyana. This book lists all of the spots available for fishing, diving, clamming, etc., from The Gualala River north to the southern end of the Sinkyone Wilderness Area..... Lotsa good stuff to do up there. Soon there'll be an opportunity to gather fresh, wild mushrooms in that area as well.

    Happy fishing/hunting
