We get our winter run of Steelhead in December through March depending on the storms and river conditions. They run 4 to 12 pounds and can reach near 20 pounds. Most fish for them in the top few miles of the river below the Nimbus fish hatchery.

In the srping we get a new run of Halfpounder Steelhead which are 12 to 20 inches or so. This is March through May. These fish are feeding on insects so it is a lot like trout fishing in a large river.

In mid-summer, July/August, it is the slowest time for Steelhead but there are some caught in certain spots early and late in the day.

September starts the traditional Fall Halfpounder Steelhead run which is usually downriver from Watt Avenue to the Cal Expo/River Park area. Early and late is best in the warm weather of September.

Sept/Oct is very nice for Halfpounders as many go down to the river after work on the weeknights.
