I love tarpon but BIG ones are hard to hold on to. My best so far is only about 75 lbs. with lots of smaller ones in and around the mangroves along with a few other creatures too. I've fished for them in Isla Holbox, Belize, Florida Keys, and Isla Blanca north of Cancun. Some were only the size of a large shad, lots in the#10-#20lb. range, but my "Big" one was with Bruce Chard out of Big Pine Key almost thirty years ago.

    Great Tony.

We have been very fortunate to have been able to travel when we were younger.

My biggest Tarpon landed on a fly was about that same size as yours.

We have both caught lots of Baby or Juvenile Tarpon from 5# to 20# too.

Those are the fun size and one of my favorite fish.

Flywater Travel in Ashland, Oregon, has two of the best places for small and medium size Tarpon.

Isla Del Sabalo and Tarpon Cay Lodge.

My wife finally came home and talked me through putting these pictures up for the forum.
The first pictures were at night after dinner at Vaca Cut. We took these two nights in a row at the same spot.
The other picture is of a shad-sized tarpon at Isla Blanca and a friendly croc making a snack of my catch

I've gotten a couple of 100+ pounders in the Keys, but I can be happy with 30 and under from now on.

    Tony,

    I love that second photo.

    It really tells the story.
