If I'm in the wrong section apologies in advance, the saltwater board seemed full of non local stuff.

Talk to the guys at Lost Coast Outfitters in SF. They are very knowledgeable and have a good section on their website with tips on locations, rigs, techniques, etc.

My son got to know them when lived in the Presidio and fished for stripers at Crissy Field before and after work. Their website has a map showing spots inside and outside GG Bridge for stripers, surf perch, sharks. If you talk to them, they will tell you what is around and where/how to get them. My son hooked a ray that took off like a fast sub until he broke it off...he saw it but couldn't turn it with his 7wt. No headshakes, just smooth, fast power. Stripers are seasonal but surf perch are usually eager.
Great info, Sonoman.
Many Stripers are up around Colusa now, on the Sacramento River, spawning, but in June, many will head back down river, into the Bays
and out on the beaches all summer. Some will go into little bays like Tomales.

So bait fish and crabs. I have a piece of T20 i never used and 30lb to 50lb mono or just add T20 to an existing line/reel. 8WT n 9WT single hand rods with stubby fighting butts. The stripping basket is a diff issue, arts and crafts might happen for that one.
Gonna take a trip to Fish First in Berkeley, grab some flies and hopefully some knowledge
Never been to this shop, and I sure as heck will return. Very helpful with my Q's on surf fishing! And a very nice selection of you name it! Did not leave without extras

Ed Story (founder owner of Feathercraft) used to shore fish for stripers and other fish in the Bay area. He told me one day when we were sitting around BS'ing that he used to go down below the Chart House Restaurant (this is on the ocean side of the peninsula) at low tide. He'd mark locations of troughs, drop offs, sand bars, rocks, etc and triangulate them with markers on the shore. Then he would go back at high tide and using his triangulations, fish those holding areas with clousers and other baitfish patterns. Of course he could only do this when the shore break was calm and not about to flush him out to the Farallons.
Interesting side fact: Ed had the last legal fur seal harvest permit. He had it pinned on the wall in the shop. Evidently, the way they sold them was the permit remained active with the owner for their live time. Or maybe it was just for one single pelt, it was a plastic zip tie type thing, and maybe they had to attach it to the pelt when they harvested one. I can't remember now. But at the time he told me he could still go harvest a fur seal if he wanted to. Ed used it to stock fur seal pelts which they would cure and dye for salmon fly dubbing. It was really interesting to just listen to guys like Ed tell tales of the way it used to be.
