    Default Need some help here.

So I'm training my Pointer, Ellie Mae, to point shad. I pulled up some images on the internet and showed them to her along with some additional information like " they travel in schools so you will probably see many at once". She seemed to get it so off we went. Put in at Howe and rowed up to the power lines, not an easy row right now but I had to know. Ellie spent a lot of time obsessing with ducks and swallows, but she did eventually get to work. Since I had no points at all I can only conclude that there are no Shad today between Howe and
    Watt, otherwise I would've had a point.

    Here's Ellie working hard.

And this, you can't tell me she isn't trying.

I know how she is, and this is what she looks like when she finds her target.

So how are you other pointing dog owners training your dogs. I'm not positive Ellie's really being honest.

    Ed
Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Jake: Hit it.

    Rest assured Ed,
Ellie looks much more honest than ANY fisherman I have ever met. I would definitely trust her the most.

That looks like really good striper water too. Maybe you could coax her into just spotting FISH and not be so specific about species

Maybe being closer to the water would help.
Chief has been pointing on pheasant recently and is a great trout pointer. But I have to be quick with my cast before he flushes them.

    Talking hook up

I think you are gonna have to hook a few and land them in front of her.
Then she will really get the idea.

Current is definitely stronger than normal right now. I tried to fish that same stretch last Wednesday in the kayak. Should have taken the gas outboard because the 35lb thrust electric struggled to get me to Watt but eventually got there. The Wind was another story. Trip ended up being shorter than I hoped, but it was a learning experience; there's still lots of "firsts" for me and the kayak. I did see a bobcat sunning himself along the riprap wall, that was very cool. Dude must have been 40 to 50lbs, I'm sure there's no shortage of food for him around there.

    Thumbs up WoW

Seeing a Bobcat in the middle of a city, and during daylight is really unique.
    They are sly and sneaky.
