Best row-able lakes?

Hi everyone,

Anyone have good suggestions for a small pram with no outboard(yet)? Baum, Manzanita, Lewiston, Rancho Seco, any others? Outboard is in the shop getting repaired for the next month and I don't want to miss out on my favorite season!

As a side note, I went up to Lewiston last weekend, thinking of motoring upstream and drifting down to the flats. Due to outboard issues, only made it to the island. They had just peaked the release to the Trinity (+5000 cfs), but the current wasn't too bad on the oars. Water temp was 51 degrees, nothing hatching except midges. Saw 3 trout jumping, including one that was at least 20+ inches. Tried wiggle tails, leeches, stone fly nymphs, pheasant tails, brassies and midge patterns. Nada. Beautiful day on the water though! 72 degrees and saw several bald eagles.

Lewiston was just planted, manzanita is ice free, McCumber was planted recently and is getting weeded, Baum is slowing down.

I drove by Lewiston a few times this week. On Tuesday the guy was dumping trout in as I drove by. Saw a few fly anglers in various types of craft. Lots of current moving through there right now. Such a beautiful place. I remember float tubing over 25 years ago and it was great. Back then there was a pretty good callibaetis hatch.

Kevin Dorin said May was the best top water month for Large Mouth Bass in the Delta.

There is plenty of small water in the Delta to fish with any small floating device or small boat.

Captain Andy Guibord might be able to point you to some of the quieter places in the Delta for LMB.

Fuller Lake up near Emigrant Gap for Rainbows and Browns. Close by is Rucker Lake for Largemouth and Sunfish, I had to drag my pram across some grass but wasn't bad. Red Lake over near Carson Pass for Brookies and Cutthroat. Any small lake in the Sierras with a road going to it will be perfect for a pram.

Red Lake used to be one of my favorites (15-20 years ago?) but more recently I've been less than thrilled with my success there. It also gets a nasty blue-green algae in the summer.

Have you had recent good outings there?
