    Default Bass Are Good

Clouds are good but bass are good too. Especially when they bite the fly. They bit the fly pretty well this morning before the sun was on the water and actually kept biting after the sun was high which was a little surprising. It seems like most of the 17"-19" have gotten off the shoreline but there are still a few. Those big ones will be on the shad balls as soon as they form up. I saw a surface disturbance today that looked like maybe a ball of shad. Another week or so and I will spend some time looking for them. Lots of spots and some smallmouth today and one good largemouth that was maybe five pounds. A little bit of looking for woodpeckers today also and a coot picture from yesterday. The coot is a pretty common bird which nobody thinks highly of but is a good-looking when you get a close up shot. I have a new appreciation for the coot. The largemouth photo is good but the coot is my favorite. That is what is happening today.

    John,

Coots are OK, but I like bass better. Nice spots!

There are smallies, spots and largemouth. What is funny is maybe one bass in 40 I catch is a largemouth. I know there are plenty of largemouth but I guess the way I fish and where I fish works for spots and smallies. I think the spots and smallies are more open water fish and the largemouth is a cover dwelling ambush fish.

Vaughn - I figured it was about time for a bunch of fish pictures. I like both but right now but I am into the birds a bit more. I heard coyotes up there last time. That might be a good shot. I saw a bobcat two years ago. That would be cool. I spooked a wild pig that was sleeping under a tree one afternoon. I got pretty close to him before he heard me and took off.

    John,

Your pics are big fun John--both birds and fish.
