    Default Berryessa Happenings

Fishing was not good yesterday. I don't know why but maybe the cold weather pushed the bass back down to deeper water. Who knows but it should get better as the weather warms. The wildlife viewing was good yesterday. I crept up on some quail and deer, called in an oak titmouse and got close to a loon that was still in winter plumage. The quail have been hard to get close to. I had pretty full camo on and approached very slowly. It seemed like they saw me but did not recognize me as a human threat and gave me some good photo ops on a mossy log. KCRA was up there and did a story on the clean boat rules and the cost of getting your boat cleaned. I tried to post a link to the story but maybe the link did not work. Bill seems to be pretty good at posting YouTube links. That is what is happening.

Nice wildlife hunting with the camera Jon.

I have a hat with a drop down face cover. My eyes are visible but I am not sure I can do much about that. I have gloves. That seems to be important.

Fly fishing guide, Fred Gordon in Dunsmuir, gives you a camo long-sleeve t-shirt and a drab hat to fish with him, if you

show up with bright colored clothing.

I bought a bunch of camo stuff at Bass Pro last year and have been trying to figure out what to do with it. Sitting for hours waiting for something to walk by does not appeal to me. No photo is worth sitting for hours waiting but some people do that. Thomas Mengelson waits for days by the Snake River for something to show up. A ghillie or camo shirt with a face covering, gloves and drab pants seems to be a good approach. I have ghillie pants but that seems like overkill. You have to get over looking like a weird guy with a camera sneaking around all camoed up. The park is not a good place for it.
