If I needed a fly tying vise I'd be all over this. Dyna King makes one of the best vises, very versatile, and solid as a rock. I've been using a Dyna King Pro since I first tying salt water flies back in the early 90's. You'll pay over $600 - $700 for a new one. Heckuva deal for a Dyna King. Be a great Christmas present for someone who ties flies.
Dyna King does make a fine vise. I have been tying on a DK Pro for decades, one of the very first ever produced and originally owned by one of the North Coast salmon/steelhead legends.
The Trekker is a lightweight, lot to mid-end DK vise that sold brand-new for $325-375 so $300 still seems a little expensive. The Trekker is no longer in production but still listed as "out of stock" on many fly shop websites. DK prices on eBay are all over the map, probably because many sellers don't understand the difference in models. I saw a near-new Trekker sell for $170 on the WashingtonFlyFishing.com forum several years ago and there is one listed right now on eBay for $182 including some tools and materials.
Good to know, I don't follow WashFF forum and didn't check eBay. The Trekker looks very similar to the Barracuda and I bet it's made almost the same way, without the crank handle. Prices have inflated too. I can't remember for sure but I bought my Pro for less than what you're saying those original Trekker's went for.
