I was in the tire business for almost thirty years. I owned Big O Tires in Vacaville and later in Fairfield. It was always a point of discussion about what to do with waste tires. The junks that are worn out and taken off your cars and truck. Huge landfills covered acres and acres of ground. Small valleys were filled to the peaks and became flat ground. Its always been a problem that has no affordable answer.
At company meetings it always came up about the person who could invent a way of cheaply disposing of these junks would become a millionaire over night. Nothing has yet been developed. They've tried chopping them into little pieces and using them in asphalt for roads. They've tried burning them but the pollution is too great. More than 80% of a tire is rubber,,,,, synthetic rubber,,,,,, made from oil. Burning them is one means but if started by fire they are almost impossible to put out. It has happened where these mountains of tires have started to burned and they can't put the fire out. Some of these piles have been burning for years without stopping. Can you imagine the pollution that has been put out? Dumping them in the ocean sounds like a good idea,,,, at first. But if you watched the video you'll see that doesn't work either.
So what do we do? I'd like to be the millionaire that figures it out.
