First off, big props to Mac at Fish First in Chico. I swung by on my way out of town to pick up some stuff and he was great as usual. Spot on fly recs.
I fished the WB of the Feather and Yellow Creek on a recent stay at the cabin in Jonesville. Every day was the hopper dropper combo with a little tungsten bh catch all with a little orange in the tail.
Butte Creek has some stocked fish too but I passed on that. The Feather was a serious bush whack. Hard core. But I caught a ton of fish. All on the nymph. Rainbows to about 12” and a few dink Brookies. The next day we drove up over to Humbug valley. The devastation from the Dixie fire is mind numbing. They are heavily logging the area which makes it even more stark. Humbug valley itself looks pretty good, the fire came right up to the edge on the west side. But Yellow Creek was active. I fished down near the bottom of the valley stretch. Again fish to about 12” but mostly browns. A few decent Brookies. Mostly caught on the nymph. I did get a few strikes on the hopper as well. I must admit to being hopelessly in love with this valley. It’s so special. The Maidu have added and continue to add BDAs as well as having WFP bring a family of beavers in to work on actual dams. The creek looks fantastic. Brushy and willowy and good flows. The fire damage, to include two previous fires (Caps and Belding?), is tough. But it’s still lovely.
